Nigerian Health Center Renovation
Together, a group of KL-YES alumni, recently selected KL-YES students and several volunteers got together to renovate the Primary Healthcare Center in Wadata, Benue State, Nigeria in honor of the KL-YES 10th anniversary.
The group of 13 used IRIS funding to carry out the two-day renovation project, which included giving the walls a fresh coat of paint, repairing window nets and ceiling repairs. A waiting hall was also decorated with hand-written informative messages educating patients on topics such as washing your hands and childcare.
The Benue State KL-YES Coordinator, Mmaasuur Gambe said that it was a great project, because it gave a group of young people the opportunity to reach out and help a community. She said that the people within the community were “very excited” to receive assistance from a source other than the Nigerian government. “The alumni are doing this, and are willing to do more if they can,” said Gambe.
The volunteer work was documented on several Nigerian websites and newspapers.
