From a YES host: Rachel helps raise money for orphanage in TZ

June 3, 2010

Bonnie Anderson is the host mom of Rachel Mziga from Morogoro, Tanzania. They live in Hills, Iowa, and Rachel attends Iowa City High School.

In this post, Bonnie shares about how Rachel raised $1,500 for an orphanage in Tanzania.

This year, Rachel helped raise $ 1,500 dollars to help purchase seven solar ovens for the Angel House Orphanage in Tarime, Tanzania.

The project started with a bake sale and church dinner at the Rochester United Methodist Church. Rachel worked at the bake sale and dinner. She helped make goods for the bake sale… She helped in selecting the project with the United Methodist Women and Sunday School at the Rochester United Methodist Church.

At the event, Rachel presented a video about the orphanage. The new orphanage can house up to 100 children.

We hope that the use of the solar ovens will help save trees. Then the money usually used to buy fire wood can be used elsewhere. We are now working on getting these ovens to the orphanage with an organization called Grass Roots Ministries located in New Carlisle, Ohio.

Again we just want to thank Rachel for opening our hearts and together touching the lives of others around the world. Also, we would like to thank the U.S. State Department and IRIS for sending such a fine young lady to represent her country, Tanzania.
