Our Condolences: Dr. Edward A. Miller, M.D.

December 6, 2010

Our thoughts are with the family of IRIS board member Helen Miller after the loss of her husband, Dr. Edward A. Miller, M.D.

Miller, 64 of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Nov. 24 after battling with cancer.

A retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, Ed was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

During his 30-year active duty military career, he held a number of prestigious positions that contributed to the improvement of the delivery of military health care. During Desert Storm, he commanded a wartime hospital in England and served at the Pentagon under the secretary of defense.

Upon retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1999, Dr. Miller worked as a family physician at Trimark Physician’s Group in Fort Dodge. From November of 2003, he served as the medical director for the Iowa Department of Corrections at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility and the North Central Correctional Facility. He retired from this position in November 2010.

He also volunteered his service at free medical clinics locally, assisted with the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Prayer Breakfast planning committee and coordinated fundraising for the African American Museum of Iowa in Cedar Rapids.

Friends describe Miller as “generous, caring, compassionate and kind.”
