Program Assistant (Part time, Temporary)

This Program Assistant will work alongside the Youth Exchange and Study Department at IRIS to help develop and expand current international exchange programming.

Job description:
Duties for the IRIS Part Time Program Assistant will include: finding host families for program participants; promote IRIS and its mission through community organizations and social media; develop innovative ways to reach out to potential host families; find short term host families when necessary; maintain IRIS’ host family database; assist the program coordinator with home visits, orientation, and program events.

Requirements:

  • Professional office or non-profit experience; Excellent communication skills; Openness to working with other cultures; Driver’s license and personal vehicle
  • Experience working with youth is a plus.
  • Experience working in education is a plus.
  • Position Start Date: January 2nd, 2014 (possible earlier start date for orientation)
  • Position End Date: March 31st, 2014 (possibility of extending based on need and ability)
  • Hours/week: 20, afternoons and evenings
  • Hourly rate: $10

Community Connections Program Assistant (Part time, Temporary)

The Community Connections Program Assistant will help develop and implement a short term professional development program with international participants from Ukraine. The program will seek to educate participants about human rights in regard to immigration and refugees.

Job description:
Duties for the IRIS Community Connections Program Assistant will include: finding host families for program participants and interpreters during their time in Iowa; scheduling meetings and activities for the group; orienting host families to IRIS, the Community Connections program, and their hosting responsibilities; prepare orientation information about Iowa and Community Connections program for participants; provide transportation for participants to/from daily meetings and activities during their time in Iowa; meet the needs of program participants (running errands, answering questions, acting as liaison between IRIS, host families, and participants, etc.)

Requirements:

  • Professional office or non-profit experience; Excellent communication skills; Openness to working with other cultures; Flexibility; Reliability; Driver’s license and personal vehicle
  • Experience planning programs or events is a plus.
  • Position Start Date: January 15, 2014
  • Position End Date: March 31, 2014
  • Hours/week: 30
  • Pay rate: $10/hr

Public Relations Intern (Part Time)

The Public Relations Intern will work alongside the IRIS staff to build name recognition, write blogs, update social media, and share IRIS news with the community.

Job description:
Duties for the IRIS Public Relations Intern will include: interviewing participants and writing blogs; updating social media and the IRIS website; creating press releases for IRIS related news; working alongside IRIS staff to come up with creative ideas to build name recognition in Iowa.

Requirements:

  • Professional office or non-profit experience; Excellent communication skills; Openness to working with other cultures; Driver’s license and personal vehicle; Experience in public relations; Excellent writing skills
  • Position Start Date: January 2nd, 2014
  • Position End Date: August 1st, 2014
  • Hours/week: 10-15
  • Hourly rate: $10
